National Partners

Building on common objectives and synergies, CANARIE is proud to work with important national innovation partners such as our federal granting councils, CFI and Genome Canada.

Canada Foundation for Innovation

Many significant CFI-funded projects depend on CANARIE’s ultra high-speed network, including: Compute Canada; Canadian Light Source; Sudbury Neutrino Observatory; NEPTUNE Canada; Advanced Laser Light Source; Canadian Radio Astronomy Research; and TRIUMF.

“The capabilities provided by CANARIE and the tremendous investment in infrastructure made by CFI are not only strengthening Canada’s research capabilities, but they are allowing institutions to recruit and retain outstanding researchers. Ultimately, it’s about people. The most important infrastructure is the human infrastructure. A researcher can have the most brilliant ideas, but if you don’t have the tools to test them, then they’re just ideas. CANARIE and CFI provide the tools that are enabling innovation to happen on a large scale across Canada.”

Dr. Eliot Phillipson, President
Canada Foundation for Innovation

Canadian Institutes of Health Research

“The CANARIE advanced networking connection to more than 80 Canadian universities and 60 hospitals is helping to keep Canada at the leading edge of health research. Many CIHR researchers rely on CANARIE to access high performance computer facilities to advance bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics research. For example, the research of Dr. Francis Plummer, one of the world’s leading specialists on HIV/AIDS, depends on accessing genomics and proteomics analysis in CANARIE-linked supercomputer computing centres across Canada.”

Dr. Alain Beaudet
President
Canadian Institutes of Health Research

Genome Canada

“Genome Canada’s vision is to position Canada as a world leader in genomics and proteomics research. Its mandate is to develop and implement a national strategy in genomics and proteomics research for the benefit of all Canadians in key selected areas such as agriculture, environment, fisheries, forestry, health and new technology development. The CANARIE Network makes this research possible by facilitating access to the ultra high bandwidth, data storage and high performance computing needed to access, visualize, analyze and share massive amounts of data.”

Dr. Martin Godbout, O.C., Ph.D.
President and CEO
Genome Canada

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council

“Supporting research that leads to innovation starts with supporting people – our human capital. In keeping with Canada’s Science and Technology Strategy, this is exactly what the federal granting agencies do. NSERC supports some 36,000 students and university professors, many of whom rely on the CANARIE Network to conduct world-class research in areas as diverse as nanotechnology, climate change modeling, astronomy, digital media, forestry, high energy physics, high performance computing, oceanography, and simulation and visualization. Together, NSERC and CANARIE are ensuring that researchers have the funding and infrastructure needed to excel internationally.”

Suzanne Fortier, D. Ph.
President
Natural Science and Engineering Research Council

Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council

“Social scientists and humanists rely on advanced research networks to collaborate with national and international colleagues. Researchers in fields from business to the fine arts use high performance computing to analyze global economic data, to electronically compile and search libraries and to amass and share databases of historical images and texts, as well as many other applications. The CANARIE Network’s importance will continue growing over the coming years as more SSHRC scholars tap into this valuable research infrastructure.”

Dr. Chad Gaffield
President
Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council
