Proposals
I'm having trouble logging in to the proposal system (atir-dair.canarie.ca). How do I get credentials or a User ID?
CANARIE uses Review Room, an online proposal service, for these proposals. Rather than having you create a new ID and password for this, you may use one of the following options:
Easiest: log in with your Facebook, Twitter or Linked In account
|
|
![]() |
Also easy: click on the button labelled "Sign in or Register" and then on the Sign In button beside OpenIdP. (There is a CANARIE option there, but it is only for CANARIE employees.) You will be redirected to the OpenIdP login page. If you already have an OpenId, just fill in the blanks and you will be redirected back to the proposal site. |
| A little more work: If you do not already have an OpenIdP, you may create one. Simply click on the OpenIdP Sign In button. Instead of entering your Username and Password, click on the "Register new account" link. Follow the prompts to create a new OpenIdP account. Please remember your Username! |
When will I hear back?
You should hear back from us within two weeks.
If you have not heard back from us, please make sure you have clicked the final "Submit" button at the end of the proposal. If that still doesn't work, send an e-mail to dair@canarie.ca.
If our proposal is accepted, how long will it be before we can use the system?
If accepted, you are provided credentials to use the system within 2 business days of accepting the Use Agreement. For this step as well we are currently responding earlier, usually the same day of acceptance of the Agreement.
Technical Questions about DAIR
Is it possible to transfer from a commercial cloud to DAIR?
The system is based on OpenStack (Essex), and thus supports basic EC2 (Amazon) interfaces, as well as the OpenStack APIs. Transferring into the DAIR system from an outside cloud is usually straightforward, although some competence in cloud computing DevOps is required as CANARIE does not provide or perform any transfer services.
DAIR is eventually hoping to partner with a commercial Canadian cloud provider. If we can find a suitable partner, not only would this provide a commercial path for users after their time on DAIR, it would be a Canadian option, and we would put processes in place to make transfer to the production environment as easy as possible.
Does DAIR provide GPUs in addition to (virtual) CPUs?
No, DAIR does not provide GPUs (Graphics Processing Units).
What virtualization technology does DAIR use?
DAIR uses OpenStack Essex, with KVM as the hypervisor.
Eligibilty
Who can apply?
Any Canadian small or medium-size company (SME < 500 employees) may apply to DAIR.

Cost and Payment
How much does it cost?
DAIR services are provided for a nominal fee based on granted quota. A summary of the fee, based on the quota (maximum quantity) of virtual machine cores available to the user for 1 year are:

Machine Cores Quota
|
Fee for one year of service
|
| FREE | 1 to 4 | $0 |
| 1 | Greater than 4 | $100 per core in excess of 4 example: 8 cores would cost (8-4) x 100 = $400 |
How do we pay?
