How to Get Connected
| 1 | All organizations that wish to connect to the CANARIE Network are required to make a connection through one of the CANARIE approved GigaPoPs. Under the CANARIE Network program, CANARIE has allocated funds for the deployment and operation of at least one GigaPoP per province, plus a Federal GigaPoP. However, these GigaPoPs do not have exclusive access to the CANARIE Network. From time-to-time, other organizations, at their own cost, may apply to CANARIE to set up and operate their own GigaPoP connecting to the CANARIE Network. An up-to-date list of approved GigaPoPs with contact information can be found below. |
| 2 | Organizations are encouraged to use the provincial RAN (Regional Advanced Network) to gain access to a CANARIE approved GigaPoP. RANs are networks, partially funded by CANARIE, that link universities, research institutions and other networks to each other and to the CANARIE Network. |
| 3 | The GigaPoP operator, as well as the RAN, may charge fees and may have their own Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for access to the GigaPoP and/or RAN. These fees and AUPs are established by the individual GigaPoP operator or RAN and will reflect local costs, funding arrangements and other factors. |
| 4 | If an organization cannot come to an agreement to connect to the GigaPoP Operator or RAN, it can apply directly to CANARIE to create and operate a GigaPoP directly connected to the CANARIE Network. Such GigaPoPs must be approved by CANARIE in consultation with the ORAN Advisory Committee. The applicant must bear all costs of the GigaPoP and any additional costs imposed upon the CANARIE Network to connect up such a GigaPoP. |
