Join the Canadian Access Federation (CAF)

To be eligible to participate in the Canadian Access Federation (CAF), your organization must be either:

  • An accredited post-secondary institution in Canada
  • A Canadian public research institution or consortium that is an independent legal entity
  • An organization which undertakes, supports, or enables academic research or education in Canada

Higher education or research institutions must also be connected to Canada’s National Research and Education Network (NREN) through one of our provincial or territorial partners, unless this criterion is waived by CANARIE. You can verify if your institution is connected by using our NREN Connection Tool or by contacting us at canops@canarie.ca.

If you are a student, researcher, or faculty member and don’t see your institution on the list of CAF Participants, speak to your IT department about their plans to participate.

Joining the Canadian Access Federation is a simple process.

  1. Complete and submit the CAF Application by clicking the “Join” button below.
  2. The application will be reviewed internally. If approved:
  3. Within two (2) weeks of submitting the application on behalf of your organization, we will send a Participation Agreement and Authorized Contact Form to your organization’s Signing Authority.
  4. The Primary Technical Contact identified in the Authorized Contact Form will need to complete a Trust Assertion Document (TAD) and provide additional technical support contacts for your organization.
  5. Implementation will begin!
