CANARIE, a vital component of Canada’s digital infrastructure supporting research, education and innovation, and GrowLab, a Vancouver-based startup accelerator, today announced a partnership to provide entrepreneurs with a suite of powerful, cloud-based resources to support product development and commercialization.
Through this partnership, GrowLab will provide its clients with access to CANARIE’s Digital Accelerator for Innovation and Research (DAIR) through the Powered by DAIR program. DAIR provides free cloud-based compute, network and storage resources for small businesses to develop, test, prototype and demonstrate next-generation products. DAIR’s made-in-Canada cloud provides users with the cost certainty, scalability and long-term usage horizon that can kick-start commercialization of research and the formation of new businesses.
GrowLab’s approach is entrepreneur-centric. Startups go through an intense mentorship program and are provided with access to resources and a global network that will accelerate their growth. Startups are mentored by the GrowLab executive team as well as a group of handpicked mentors that is comprised of seasoned entrepreneurs, top executives and industry professionals, as well as venture capital firms and angel investors.
“CANARIE’s Powered by DAIR program is a highly valuable and innovative complement to the suite of resources that we offer to our cohort companies,” said Jonathan Bixby, Executive Director of GrowLab. “With the DAIR cloud, we can give our entrepreneurs a boost so that they develop their products faster and at a considerably lower cost, so that they can get to market first.”
“The combined technology resources and expertise of CANARIE and innovative business incubation and mentoring services of accelerators like GrowLab offer a significant boost to startups so that they can receive the support and services they need, when they need it,” said Peter Wilenius, Vice President of Business Development at CANARIE. “Cloud technology offers efficiencies that let entrepreneurs and small businesses move from idea to market launch faster.”
The GrowLab partnership is an expansion of the Powered by DAIR partner model, in which organizations supporting businesses secure a block of DAIR resources and offer the service as an extension to their existing services. Administrative and marketing support is also offered, to assist in cloud incubation support to clients. For business owners, Powered by DAIR is a one-stop shop of services that reduces the time and effort required to navigate various programs.
Powered by DAIR has been launched with a host of Canada’s leading business incubators and accelerators including the City of Fredericton’s goFred network, Startup Calgary, and TEC Edmonton, the Association of University
Research Parks (AURP) Canada, and educational institutions such as Ottawa’s Algonquin College and New Brunswick Community College.
DAIR’s free cloud resources are also available to any small or medium-sized Canadian business through the CANARIE website at http://atir-dair.canarie.ca.
