Cybersecurity Analyst

The Cybersecurity Analyst is accountable for CANARIE Security Information and Events Management (SIEM) system administration and optimization, security applications support including continual improvement for visibility and effectiveness, and mitigation of low, medium, and high severity events.

This is a full-time, permanent position that reports to CANARIE’s Manager, Cybersecurity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Applying advanced analytical skills and professional knowledge in collaborative efforts with CANARIE’s regional partners to improve the security posture of the National Research and Education Network
  • Exercising independent and evaluative judgement within defined parameters in cybersecurity operations related to risk management, cybersecurity controls implementation, vulnerabilities mitigation, and medium-high severity incidents response
  • Performing and continually improving cybersecurity monitoring tasks related to security events detection, enterprise attack surface reduction, and cybersecurity controls compliance
  • Providing administrative and technical assistance for cybersecurity applications
  • Applying advanced analytical skills and professional knowledge to actively support and deliver CANARIE cybersecurity projects
  • Reviewing threat intelligence to provide effective threat reporting to partner organizations
  • Planning and carrying out the security systems medium to high complexity administration tasks. Contributing directly to security and emergency measures through documenting, testing, and maintenance
  • Providing after-hours cybersecurity support on a rotating basis
  • Travel may occasionally be required
  • Other related duties and responsibilities, as required

Relevant experience in publicly funded not-for-profit organizations is desirable. Bilingualism is preferred.

What You Bring

Education and Experience

  • College diploma or university degree or a suitable combination of education, experience, or other relevant training
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive IT security experience, with exposure to Security Operations Center (SOC) environment

Skills

  • Knowledge and experience with information system architecture and security controls (i.e., firewalls, operating systems configurations, databases, information security policies, and procedures)
  • Knowledge of application security best practices, tools, and methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to gain trust and establish credibility with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven experience installing and configuring open-source software
  • Experience with SIEM operations, Incident Response, and Vulnerabilities Assessments

Technical Proficiencies

  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
  • Relevant security certifications are desirable
