Director, Cybersecurity Engineering

The Director, Cybersecurity Engineering, will be accountable for leading the design, implementation, and ongoing operation of the infrastructure necessary to deliver cybersecurity solutions to meet the needs of the higher education institutions in Canada.

This is a full-time position that reports to the Senior Director, CanSSOC Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading the creation of a national architecture that will support the development and delivery of cybersecurity solutions for the higher education sector
  • Developing and delivering an architecture that supports a federated set of technology, people, and processes to minimize risk of security controls breaches and data compromise
  • Ensuring that the national infrastructure architecture supports the integration of existing tools and solutions (both open source and commercial) that are being leveraged by the higher education sector into an integrated system that supports detection and response of cybersecurity threats
  • Providing leadership to staff, including ongoing coaching and staff development
  • Leading strategic and tactical planning, based on their knowledge of software and hardware product capabilities, developments, and risks coupled with an awareness of industry trends and directions
  • Leading security system / service evaluation and selection, configuration, customization, development, deployment, and support for the cybersecurity initiatives
  • In collaboration with program management, engaging with academic institutions in the higher education sector to understand user and systems requirements and translate into system designs
  • Supporting the development and deployment of secure infrastructure to deliver cybersecurity services to member institutions
  • Other related duties and responsibilities, as required
  • Travel may occasionally be required

What You Bring

Education and Experience

  • College diploma or university degree in Computer Science, or a suitable combination of education, experience, or other relevant training
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience in the field of system engineering, security architecture or equivalent
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud and on-prem security solutions
  • Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA) are desirable

Skills

  • Proven leadership skills
  • Experience in project management
  • Understanding of cybersecurity risks to the higher education sector
  • Experience in identifying and mitigating network and end-point security issues
  • Understanding of patch and vulnerability management
  • Demonstrated ability to gain trust and credibility from internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical audiences

Technical Proficiencies

  • Working knowledge of the following:
  • Security platforms such as Firewalls, SIEM, EDR, SOAR, sandboxing, etc.
  • Information security frameworks such as NIST, ISO etc.
  • SOC, incident response and threat intelligence practices
  • Demonstrated understanding of attack activities and the data associated with such activities as network probing/scanning, DDOS, APT, malicious code activity, reverse engineering, malware analysis etc.
  • Excellent understanding of networking protocols and TCP/IP
  • Strong working knowledge of security and network devices, both physical and virtual technologies e.g., IDS, Firewalls, VPN, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
