CANARIE Awards $4.4M to 20 Research Teams to Develop Advanced Software to Improve Vaccines, Monitor Climate Change, and More
We are very proud to announce up to $4.4M funding awarded to 20 Canadian research teams to develop research software that can serve multiple groups of researchers regardless of specialty. The funding is part of the Government of Canada’s $105 million investment supporting CANARIE’s activities during its 2015-2020 mandate.

HUBzero Update
The CANARIE team is researching the development of a reusable component to support CANARIE’s research API in any HUBzero instance.
We are currently working with research teams at Carleton University and the University of Victoria on our HUBzero pilot.
Carleton University is beginning their use of the HUBzero platform internally, continuing to work alongside the CANARIE team to tweak HUBzero to their required settings.
HSS Commons at the University of Victoria has a hosting agreement in place and will be deploying their HUBzero environment for internal use in the next few months.
We see an opportunity with HUBzero to support research teams that do not have dedicated software support for their research. Our goal is to leverage the HUBzero platform to provide a reusable, research software platform that is capable of supporting those research teams.

CANARIE National Summit
The CANARIE National Summit took place on October 2nd and 3rd at the National Art Centre in Ottawa. They were two filled days discussing the main theme of the event: Automation Nation, and how AI-based automation will be transformative across all sectors of the economy. You can read a bit more about the highlights of the Summit here, including a brief overview of each of the presentations.
Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We look forward to the 2019 CANARIE National Summit, taking place in the fall of 2019. Stay tuned for information regarding the date and location.
