Announcing the Second Annual Survey of Research Software Developers in Canada
We’re happy to announce the launch of the second survey of Canadian developers of software to support academic research. This survey is being conducted with the assistance of the UK Software Sustainability Institute and is being launched simultaneously with similar surveys in several other countries. The survey will close 25 September 2018.
Canadian Research Software Developers Survey 2018
The purpose of this survey is to collect data that will help guide the direction of CANARIE’s Research Software program to best support Canadian researchers. As a small token of our appreciation for your time, the first 100 Canadian research software developers to complete the survey will each receive a $20 Amazon.ca gift card.
Inaugural Canadian Research Software Developers Conference
Our inaugural Canadian Research Software Developers Conference took place on May 29-30 in Ottawa. With tickets sold-out, we had a full house and two days packed with engaging talks fromDr. Carolyn McGregor, Dr. Steve Liang, Alys Brett, and many other members of the research software community. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive and we hope to see many returning attendees for our 2019 conference.
If you are interested in participating in the 2019 Canadian Research Software Conference, stay tuned for the announcement of the Call for Submissions in Spring 2019. We will be looking for long-form talks, 5-minute lightning talks, and entries for the poster competition. HUBzero Update
Our work on the HUBzero open source software platform has continued since our last newsletter. For those who have yet to hear about HUBzero, it is a web-based software platform that enables research teams to collaborate and build communities by hosting shared analytical tools, data, and resources.
We see an opportunity with HUBzero to support research teams that do not have dedicated software support for their research. Our goal is to leverage the HUBzero platform to provide a reusable, research software platform that is capable of supporting those research teams.
We are currently working with research teams at Carleton University and the University of Victoria on our HUBzero pilot. The CANARIE development team is tailoring the platform to the needs of these two teams. HSS Commons at University of Victoria is set to introduce a larger group of beta testers to the platform in September.
